I agree with the very beginning and the end paragraph of her review, but I think she must have been watching TV while she read your book to miss so many basic parts of your story. --------- "it's hard to rationalize her calm acceptance of her mother's selfish, irresponsible behavior or why she so completely rejects her father. It would have been helpful to see more of her father's personality sooner. My sympathies were completely with him until late in the book. It would have been helpful to know more about the reason behind Alice 's breakup with the boyfriend she lived with before dating Darren and getting baptized." LisaBC
I didn't mind her questions, but to me they don't pick out flaws in the book (though the book does have flaws, don't get me wrong). The fact that she cared to question Alice's behavior is a big plus to me, because I find too many readers give a book's protagonist an automatic pass, even when their behavior is questionable. I think Alice was judgmental and dismissive of her father in her desire to see the world in black and white. Wondering about Alice's past also shows an interest in getting to know the character even more. I don't think Alice's breakup with her ex has much of anything to do with the person she is today, other than that it made her available to date Darren, but hearing someone wonder shows that the person cared about her and thought about how she became the person she was. Also a good sign, IMO.
