Cleaning out brain clutter

So I've had that feeling lately, like everything I write is musty and comes out smelling like it's been in the attic with mothballs for decades. This is what happens when I rewrite for too long and haven't freewritten enough lately.

As you can no doubt tell by the state of this blog, I've been pouring a ton of time and energy into my jewelry business. This is the slow season for me, so I'm working on improving my SEO (search engine optimization) and building up stock and all that, for this theoretical time when buyers come a-flocking.

For the past week, I assumed that's why my writing was going so slow, but now I've got that unmistakeable itch. I finished the rewrite of my last short story, now it's time to launch into something else crazy and interesting (and we'll see if it's marketable.)

I'm also keeping my head down while the publishing industry goes through a major upheaval. One of my Clarion West classmates has even decided to go indie by electronically self publishing. Self publishing used to be death to any potential career, but now if it's approached the right way, it doesn't have to be. A few people have made their careers that way, and others have augmented their earnings, even if their sales are lower. They keep a higher percentage.

Will I ever consider going indie? I'm mulling over the idea of sacrificing my E.M. Tippetts moniker to this new way of doing things, but I'll have to keep thinking on it.

My Clarion West classmate is Susan Ee, and her book is Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, Book 1).

  1. Thanks for the links! I liked the sample of Angelfall so much that I bought the entire book, and read it all to-day, too. :-)

  2. Jealous! I don't have a Kindle to read it on. I got a copy for my mother. I'm your stereotypical SciFi writer, totally clueless about modern technology. Can you even read a Kindle book without a Kindle? (Yes, I know it's a stupid question...)

  3. But I did use the internets and find an answer. Yay! Downloading the kindle app and then on to buy Susan's book :-)

  4. I don't have a Kindle either, just the app for PC. I don't know if I'll get a Kindle very soon, either, there are problems with getting all the English e-books you want if you live in another country. Grrrr.

  5. Yeah, I'm just too cheap :-) If you liked Susan's book, make sure to go leave feedback on Amazon. That sort of thing helps move copies! I'm really enjoying it so far.
